What is Stress?
Stress is generally understood as a reaction to a state of worry or mental tension caused by a situation we do not know how to respond appropriately too, due to lack knowledge. When in a situation where we find ourselves experiencing symptoms of stress this is our body giving us proof of our experience. We go from relaxed and comfortable to a state being stressed and uncomfortable which then we need to adapt and or eventually change. Everyone experiences stress to some degree. Stress is a natural human response that prompts us to address challenges and threats in our lives so that we learn and make appropriate changes for homeostasis to occur. A stress response is the body's coordinated effort to maintain homeostasis in the face of the stressors we encounter, and it's entirely vital to our survival. Studies have confirmed that our bodies rapidly increase certain hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol to help mobilize energy to where it is needed (fight or flight response) when in a stressful situation. Stress is not just a singular event as it is a physiological response that when left unattended for long periods of time adaptation occurs. The best thing about being human is we adapt and the worst thing is we adapt. When we don't understand our adaptation the stress response becomes hardwired into our mind and therefore our body so when the event or trigger is over, the alarms / response can still be happening. This is the why behind the need for awareness and therefor the change you seek to for homeostasis to occur.
What is homeostasis?
Homeostasis is a fundamental property of biological systems. It preserves their stability by maintaining key regulated variables within an acceptable range (Buchman, 2002).
It operates at the level of the entire organism, within every tissues compartment, and inside individual cells. Homeostasis is best characterized at the level of the whole organism (systemic homeostasis). The central body's drive to regulate and maintain a variety of body functions within particular ranges, so you stay alive. Everything from blood pressure, body temperature, fluid balance, sodium, potassium and calcium ion concentrations, blood sugar levels, and blood pH levels must be kept within a specific range so that your brain and vital organs can function correctly. Homeostasis is quite crucial for the survival of organisms. It is often seen as a resistance to changes in the external environment. Furthermore, homeostasis is a self-regulating process that regulates internal variables necessary to sustain life. If any of these vital parameters end up outside of the specific ranges, the whole system can quickly fall apart, shut down, and possibly die. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4048989/
What is the regulation of homeostasis?
The regulation of homeostasis depends on three mechanisms:
Receptor:As the name suggests, the receptor is the sensing component responsible for monitoring and responding to changes in the external or internal environment.
Control Center :The control center is also known as the integration center. It receives and processes information from the receptor.
Effector: The effector responds to the commands of the control center. It could either oppose or enhance the stimulus.

There are 3 types of stress:
Acute Stress: Fight or flight. The body prepares to defend itself. It takes about 90 minutes for the metabolism to return to normal when the
response is over.
Chronic Stress: The cost of daily living: bills, kids, jobs…This is the stress we tend to ignore or push down. Left uncontrolled this stress affects
your health, your body and your immune system.
Eustress: Stress in daily life that has positive connotations : marriage, promotion, baby, new friends, graduation
What are the impacts of stress?
Stress is created by any upset to our body’s equilibrium. It can come from a wide variety of sources including: deadlines, pressures, excess stimulation, lack of sleep, lack of exercise and nutrition, emotional trauma, physical injuries, illness and infections, and much more. Over prolonged periods stress can have complex mental and physiological complications such as:
● Hormonal Imbalances ● Depression ● Fibromyalgia ● Headaches / Migraines ● Raynaud's ● Mood Swings ● Heart Attacks ● Asthma/COPD
● Traumatic Brain Injuries ● Constipation ● ADHD/ADD ● Stroke ● Epilepsy/Seizures ● Insomnia ● Chronic Fatigue ● Acid Reflux/Heartburn
● Chronic Pain ● PTSD ● Auto Immune Diseases ● Diabetes ● Irritable Bowel Syndrome ● Addictive Behaviors ● Memory Loss ● Infertility
● Spinal Cord Injury ● Epilepsy/Seizures ● Panic, Anxiety & Worry ● Endometriosis, PCOS & PMS ● Arthritis / RA/ OA ● Eczema / Shingles / Psoriasis ● Abnormal heart rhythms (cardiac arrhythmia) ● Side effects from drugs to treat cancer ● Stress related to Cancer ● High blood pressure (hypertension) ● Hypo-tension ● Paralysis and certain movement disorders ● MS ● Stress ● Hyper / Hypo Immune Responses ● Degeneration ● Neuropathy ● Urinary incontinence
What is important to understand is that we all experience stressors throughout our lives on an on going basis and that there are many situations that create stress that are unavoidable. What we can do is find healthy ways to control how we react to them in order to better handle stress in our own lives. When we learn how to manage what causes our stress we can create a balanced healthy life.
What is health?
The World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. "Health is the harmonious flow of life energy. When imbalances occur - illness results" - Andrew Weil,MD

How do you accurately determine what is causing you stress in order to achieve healthy homeostasis?
With a specialist in the field of Quantum Biofeedback using the Quest 9™. Quest 9™ is a device that utilizes five comfortable, conductive straps with sensors that measure Electrodermal Response on the wrists, ankles and forehead. It is accurate and sensitive enough to measure the Electrodermal Response stress reactions to over 12,000 different Trivector (3 dimensional view) signatures, which commonly interact with the human body at a rate of 95% accuracy. These Trivector signatures which appear in the matrix of the Quest 9™software allows the practitioner to have greater access into the profile of stress factors pertinent to lifestyle and wellness for a client. This information is then compiled into a 35 page report given to the client for educational purposes. More importantly then the fact that this advanced form of biofeedback produces a cybernetic loop measuring the body electric, it also offers over 1000 different therapies to re-educated the physical and emotional body due of the sophisticated wave-form generator found in the Quest 9™ It is through retraining the body and mind you address stressful reactions like pain, inflammation and degeneration of various origins. The Quest 9™ is designed to correct the manifestation of stress and / or electro-stress patterns within the individual at the physiological level. This technology works on the theory that stress disrupts the inherent electromagnetic frequencies at which the body’s cells resonate and that by returning these frequencies to their natural state, the stress and any subsequent reaction to the stress that occurred, are occurring, or may be occurring because of the disruption, may be reduced. Thus re-educating the muscles, nerves, organs and other areas of the body / mind to healthier patterns for optimal health. With the 1000 different retraining therapies available the quantum biofeedback specialist can gently and non-invasively reduce the stress to help clients restore vibrancy resulting in health.
How does biofeedback with the Quest 9™ system work?
The Quest 9™ builds upon major developments in the fields of bio energetics, voltametrics, quantum physics, homeopathy and more. It utilizes similar technologies as the MRI, CT Scan, EEG and ECG; all of which measure the electrical activity of the body to proved information about the state of a client’s health. The Quest 9™ is unique in the field of biofeedback due to its proprietary algorithmic formulas and VARHOPE measurements which have been shown in clinical studies to indicate and improve upon the body’s ability to effectively adapt to various forms of stress.
What are the scientific principles that led to the Quest 9™ biofeedback technology?
Quantum Biofeedback is applying history with present technology for Stress Management & Peak Performance. The accuracy and reliability of the Quest 9™ Biofeedback System is based on decades of research conducted in the fields of bio-energetic and bio-response medicine. It incorporates some of the best elements of electro-medicine and energetic medicine. Electro-medicine, or the use of energetic modalities to treat physical ailments, is considered one of the oldest and most documented sciences known dating back to its infancy in 5th Century BC. The Greek philosophers Democritus and Leucippus proposed that matter was made up of tiny, indivisible particles they called atoms, or in Greek “a-tomos”, including the human body. In 46 AD Doctors Largus and Dioscorides documented substantial therapeutic results with electrical currents in circulatory disorders and in the management of pain from neuralgia, headache, and arthritis. 1840 England’s first electrical therapy department is established at Guy’s Hospital, under Dr. Golding Bird. The electrical discovery of Galvano leads to the use of mechanically pulsed Galvanic currents. In the 1860’s the Discovery of the Body electric by Michael Faraday where in electricity is used all around the body. Special nerves made up of cells called neurons carry electrical signals to the brain from every part of the body and from the brain to all parts of the body. These nerves even carry electricity from one part of the brain to another. Generally, this is the way that our brain helps us get information from our senses, processes information and helps us control our muscles and organs. Historians of science refer to Faraday as one of the best experimentalist in the History of Science. In 1959 the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Yaroslavl Heyrovsky “for his discovery and development of the polarographic Voltammetry methods of analysis”. This proves the fact there is an energetic signature of a Voltametrics field around all items. These subtler and more profound applications of the concept of the body electric are just being discovered now; but there is a long history of great minds and thinkers contributing to this body of knowledge.
"Sickness results when cells, molecules or particles of matter are out of their normal resonance or vibratory pattern. By repeated exposing damaged tissue to the normal resonance frequencies associated with that tissue, healing often occurs, sometimes quite rapidly."

Here is a common example of stress for human beings to react during environmental changes. When there is a barometric change or temperature change of more than 15-20 degrees in a 24-48 hour period of time one's body and its immune system has to be able to respond through a process of adaptation. When the body is stressed the ability to adapt can be more challenging so symptoms can be intensified and more persistent. Know that symptoms are not a "bad" thing because without them we would not get a warning sign from our body that it is in a state of stress and needs support. So we understand that symptoms are a message of protection feedback not punishment from the body. We accept that our body has needs and in order for our body to protect us it is our job to provide the supportive tool/s to and for our body to be able to heal itself. As a Biofeedback Specialist we are here to support / assist /educate our clientele about this process through the retaining of biofeedback therapy. This creates solutions that help the body with adaptation to reduce pain and inflammation creating relaxation and balance.

Best decision I have ever made!
I had reached my limit of not understanding what was wrong with my health. I was sick and tired of being in a constant state of pain and stress. My whole life I have bowels issues and kidney problems with a multitude of chemical sensitivities among many other health issues. I have been seeking solutions for years with my doctors and other specialists but just not seeing the changes I was needing, to succeed on my personal journey of health.
Then I heard about a Biofeedback Specialist in Sarnia at Treat Yourself Wellness that had helped a lot of people. It was shared with me that she has had many successes with assisting clients in reducing their stress. I can say now having been a client of Alisha’s for over a year, she absolutely cares about her clients and their success! When I came to her, like I said, I was in extremely bad shape…lots of STRESS! But Alisha has given me the tools and confidence for both my physical, mental, social and emotional stressors to be able to better manage, adapt and thrive. She has never let me give up on myself, no matter what I see as bad, she has always supported me to keep a healthier positive attitude about myself. I know I still have a long way to go but working alongside Alisha has given me hope that I too experience positive outcomes when making the right positive changes for myself in my health.
If anyone is looking for a kind, caring, compassionate Biofeedback Specialist please don't let anything stop you from contacting Treat Yourself Wellness Centre. This has been the best move I ever made! I am so thankful for Alisha! She is such an angel! Even when I have “slipped back” Alisha has always kept a positive attitude when I was about to give up. She helps me to remember there's a lot I have been carrying over the years and those layers, I am able to process now in a safe manner. I now look forward to doing my work with her and continue making positive strides forward in my life. Alisha and the entire team at Treat Yourself Wellness Centre have been there when I have needed to ask all my questions and they are always willing to support me in the way I need. Thank You so much!
Treat Yourself Wellness Centre and all the staff are Amazing. They are knowledgeable, kind, compassionate and always willing to assist me in any way possible that they are able too. I highly recommend Treat Yourself Wellness for any of the services or products you might need. I promise you won't regret it! In my humble opinion Treat Yourself Wellness Centre really is the best that Lambton County has to offer!
Thank you so much for all that you do!
