What is Stress?
Stress is the body’s natural response to situations that feel challenging, uncertain, or overwhelming—especially when we’re unsure how to respond effectively. It often begins as a feeling of worry or mental tension, then shows up physically in the body. In these moments, your body is signaling that something needs attention. You may shift from feeling relaxed and comfortable to tense and unsettled—prompting the need to adapt or make a change.Everyone experiences stress. In fact, it plays an important role in our survival.
The Purpose of Stress?
Stress is not a punishment—it’s a protective response. When you encounter a challenge or perceived threat, your body activates a coordinated system designed to keep you safe and maintain balance (homeostasis). Hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol are released, preparing you for action—commonly known as the fight-or-flight response. This response helps mobilize energy, sharpen focus, and prepare the body to react quickly.
When Stress Becomes a Problem
While stress is natural and necessary, it becomes problematic when it remains active for too long.Humans are highly adaptable—this is both our greatest strength and, at times, our biggest challenge. When stress is not properly understood or resolved, the body can adapt to it. Over time, this response can become habitual or “wired in,” even after the original trigger has passed. This means the body may continue reacting as if the stress is still present.
Awareness is the Solution
Recognizing how your body responds to stress is the key to creating lasting change. When you develop awareness, you gain the ability to shift out of a chronic stress state and return to balance. This is how the body restores homeostasis—its natural state of stability and well-being.
Stress is a signal. Understanding it is the first step toward changing it.

What is homeostasis?
Homeostasis is the body’s natural ability to maintain internal balance and stability, regardless of changes in the external environment. It is a fundamental process present in all living systems, working continuously at every level of the body—from individual cells to tissues and the entire organism. Its primary role is to keep your body functioning within a safe and optimal range so you can stay healthy and alive.

Key functions regulated by homeostasis include:
- Blood pressure
- Body temperature
- Fluid balance
- Blood sugar levels
- Electrolytes (such as sodium, potassium, and calcium)
- Immune response and inflammation
- Blood pH levels
|
How Homeostasis Is Regulated
Homeostasis is maintained through a continuous feedback system involving three key components: Receptor (Sensor) The receptor detects changes in the internal or external environment and sends this information to the control center. Control Center (Integrator) The control center processes the information and determines the appropriate response needed to restore balance. Effector (Responder) The effector carries out the response by either counteracting or enhancing the change to bring the body back into balance. This process is constantly active, helping your body adapt and respond to everyday challenges. |
When Homeostasis Is Disrupted
When the body is unable to maintain balance, it can lead to dysfunction and, over time, contribute to illness or disease.
Common examples associated with imbalance include:
Allergies
Arthritis
Digestive issues (such as heartburn)
Skin conditions like eczema
Chronic headaches
Autoimmune-related conditions
In more severe cases, prolonged imbalance can impact overall health and quality of life.
Factors That Influence Homeostasis
Several factors can affect the body’s ability to stay balanced, including:
Genetics
Physical condition and activity level
Diet and nutrition
Exposure to toxins
Mental and emotional health
Medications and medical treatments
Why It Matters
Homeostasis is essential for survival. Your body is constantly working to protect and regulate itself—but when it becomes overwhelmed, support may be needed to restore balance. True wellness begins when the body returns to balance.

There are 3 types of stress: Acute Stress: Fight or flight. The body prepares to defend itself. It takes about 90 minutes for the metabolism to return to normal when the response is over. Chronic Stress: The cost of daily living: bills, kids, jobs…This is the stress we tend to ignore or push down. Left uncontrolled this stress affects your health, your body and your immune system. Eustress: Stress in daily life that has positive connotations : marriage, promotion, baby, new friends, graduation What are the impacts of stress? Stress is created by any upset to our body’s equilibrium. It can come from a wide variety of sources including: deadlines, pressures, excess stimulation, lack of sleep, lack of exercise and nutrition, emotional trauma, physical injuries, illness and infections, and much more. |

The Science Behind the Quest 9™
The Quest 9™ builds on decades of research in bioenergetics, voltametrics, quantum physics, homeopathy, and more. It utilizes principles similar to MRI, CT Scan, EEG, and ECG technology, all of which measure the body’s electrical activity to provide insights into a client’s health. What makes the Quest 9™ unique in the world of biofeedback is its proprietary algorithms and VARHOPE measurements, which clinical studies have shown can improve the body’s ability to adapt to various forms of stress.
The Scientific Principles Behind Quantum Biofeedback
Quantum Biofeedback combines ancient knowledge with modern technology to help manage stress and optimize performance. Its reliability and accuracy come from decades of research in bio-energetic and bio-response medicine, incorporating the best elements of electro-medicine and energetic medicine.
Electro-medicine—the therapeutic use of electrical energy—is one of the oldest and most documented sciences, dating back to 5th century BC. Key historical milestones include:
- Greek philosophers Democritus and Leucippus proposed that matter, including the human body, is made of tiny indivisible particles called atoms (“a-tomos”).
- In 46 AD, doctors Largus and Dioscorides documented the use of electrical currents to treat circulatory disorders, pain from neuralgia, headaches, and arthritis.
- 1840, England: Dr. Golding Bird established the first electrical therapy department at Guy’s Hospital.
- 1860s: Michael Faraday’s discovery of the “body electric” showed that electrical signals flow throughout the body via neurons, connecting the brain, organs, and muscles.
- 1959 Nobel Prize in Chemistry: Awarded to Yaroslavl Heyrovsky for the discovery and development of polarographic voltammetry, proving that all matter has a measurable energetic signature.
The Body Electric and Healing
As French neurologist Dr. Paul Nogier explained:“Sickness results when cells, molecules, or particles of matter are out of their normal resonance or vibratory pattern. By repeatedly exposing damaged tissue to the normal resonance frequencies associated with that tissue, healing often occurs, sometimes quite rapidly.”
The Quest 9™ works by measuring and retraining your body’s energetic patterns, helping you adapt to stress, restore balance, and support long-term wellness.

Testimonials
Best decision I have ever made for my health and wellness!
I had reached my limit of not understanding what was wrong with my health. I was sick and tired of being in a constant state of pain and stress. My whole life I have bowels issues and kidney problems with a multitude of chemical sensitivities among many other health issues. I have been seeking solutions for years with my doctors and other specialists but just not seeing the changes I was needing, to succeed on my personal journey of health.
I heard about a Biofeedback Specialist in Sarnia at Treat Yourself Wellness that had helped a lot of people. It was shared with me that she has had many successes with assisting clients in reducing their stress. I can say now having been a client of Alisha’s for over a year, she absolutely cares about her clients and their success! When I came to her, like I said, I was in extremely bad shape…lots of STRESS! But Alisha has given me the tools and confidence for both my physical, mental, social and emotional stressors to be able to better manage, adapt and thrive. She has never let me give up on myself, no matter what I see as bad, she has always supported me to keep a healthier positive attitude about myself. I know I still have a long way to go but working alongside Alisha has given me hope that I too experience positive outcomes when making the right positive changes for myself in my health.
If anyone is looking for a kind, caring, compassionate Biofeedback Specialist please don't let anything stop you from contacting Treat Yourself Wellness Centre. This has been the best move I ever made! I am so thankful for Alisha! She is such an angel! Even when I have “slipped back” Alisha has always kept a positive attitude when I was about to give up. She helps me to remember there's a lot I have been carrying over the years and those layers, I am able to process now in a safe manner. I now look forward to doing my work with her and continue making positive strides forward in my life. Alisha and the entire team at Treat Yourself Wellness Centre have been there when I have needed to ask all my questions and they are always willing to support me in the way I need. Thank You so much!
Treat Yourself Wellness Centre and all the staff are Amazing. They are knowledgeable, kind, compassionate and always willing to assist me in any way possible that they are able too. I highly recommend Treat Yourself Wellness for any of the services or products you might need. I promise you won't regret it! In my humble opinion Treat Yourself Wellness Centre really is the best that Lambton County has to offer!
Thank you so much for all that you do!

A picture is worth a thousand words
My son was suffering terribly with chronic urticaria all over his body. We did everything we could as per our doctors and had tried some natural stuff too but nothing was changing. My little boy at 7 was only getting worse. He was so uncomfortable and so were we watching him be in so much pain. We were told about biofeedback with Alisha and well the pictures are the proof that this process works! He is so happy and so are we! Thank You so much for giving us our lives back.
Sincerely,
Brandy S.
