Biofeedback Modules
Biofeedback is a proven form of stress reduction that supports relaxation through the
regulation of your autonomic nervous system to create a healthy mind and body interaction.
regulation of your autonomic nervous system to create a healthy mind and body interaction.
Our Biofeedback modules are a type of mind-body technique used to retrain some of your body's functions, such as your heart rate, immune response, breathing patterns and muscle responses through your autonomic nervous system. Your autonomic nervous system is a network of nerves throughout your body that control unconscious processes. These are things that happen without you thinking about them, such as breathing and your heart beating. Your autonomic nervous system is always active, even when you’re asleep, and it’s key to your continued survival. During a biofeedback session, you're connected to electrical pads that help you get information about your body. 95 % of all disease is stress related and simply put biofeedback reduces your stress. The connection between stress and your nervous system when dysregulated creates stress reactions and can lead to stress patterns. When having biofeedback we are retraining those stress reactions and patterns. It is important to understand that your body's stress response isn't just a mental health issue—it's also a physiological one that involves complex interactions within your nervous system. Understanding how the nervous system regulates and contributes to disease can offer powerful insights into managing and potentially alleviating your symptoms of stress.
The Role of the Autonomic Nervous System
The autonomic nervous system (ANS) regulates involuntary body functions such as heart rate, digestion, immune response, respiratory rate, psycho-emotional, pupillary response and more. It is primarily composed of two main components: the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS).
The Sympathetic Nervous System is often called the "fight or flight" system. It prepares the body to respond to perceived threats by increasing heart rate, elevating blood pressure, and boosting energy supplies.
The Parasympathetic Nervous System is known as the "rest and digest" system. It promotes the body's "rest" mode, facilitating digestion, decreasing heart rate, and promoting relaxation and growth.

What is Nervous System Dysregulation?
Nervous system dysregulation occurs when there is an imbalance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. Ideally, these systems should work in harmony to respond appropriately to external, like environment, stimuli. However, when the sympathetic system is overactive or the parasympathetic system under active, it can lead to chronic stress responses contributing to pain and suffering. Additionally when the nervous system is dysregulated, it can also lead to an exaggerated stress response, where the body might interpret non-threatening situations as threats. Moreover, a poorly regulated vagus nerve can hamper the body's ability to return to a state of relaxation prolonging any and all symptoms of stress making it harder to cope with your stress. So a well-regulated autonomic nervous system allows individuals to calm themselves more quickly after stress, reducing the likelihood of symptoms and severity of ones own pain and suffering.
Primary indicators of Parasympathetic Dominance symptoms:
joint stiffness on arising, muscle-leg-toe cramps at night, “butterfly” stomach cramps, eyes or nose watery, eyes blink often, eyelids swollen / puffy, Indigestion soon after meals, always seem hungry, feel “lightheaded” often, digestion rapid with vomiting, frequent hoarseness, frequent irregular breathing, irregular pulse slow feels, irregular gagging reflex, difficulty swallowing, constipation alternating with diarrhea, “slow starter”, gets “chilled" infrequently, perspire easily, circulation poor, sensitive to cold, subject to colds, asthma, bronchitis
Primary indicators of Sympathetic Dominance symptoms:
acid foods upset, get chilled often, “lump” in throat, dry mouth-eyes-nose, pulse speeds after meal, "keyed" up – fails to calm, cut heals slowly, gag easily, unable to relax; startles easily, extremities cold, clammy, strong light irritates, urine amount reduced, heart pounds after retiring, “nervous stomach", anxiousness, frequent urination, appetite reduced, cold sweats often, fever easily, raised neuralgia-like pains, staring, blinks little, sour stomach, extreme sensitivity to sounds, sleep disturbances / insomnia,
The Long terms effects of sympathetic overdrive
- Small fiber neuropathy can cause symptoms of burning pain, shooting pain, allodynia (over-sensitization to pain and pain from stimuli that should not cause pain), and hyperesthesia (over sensation of the skin).
- Neuropathy pain
- Inflammatory physiology
- Chronic disease
The Long terms effects of decreased parasympathetic activity
- Damage or impacts on nerve tissue health
- Reduced state of calmness or peace
- Reduced ability to have restorative health.
