What is Burn-Out?
STRESS! Being in a state of Burn-out simply means “being burnt up”, having used up all your reserves, having no more energy left. Burnout is an experience of emotional, physical and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged overexertion and symptoms of stress are the result.
How does a burn-out develop?
Burn-out usually develops in work or personal life situations though chronic emotional and physical overexertion. This means you are being given more to do than you can manage. This can lead to a chronic overburden that can be both qualitative (the work is too difficult) or quantitative (there is too much work).
What are the symptoms of burn-out and stress?
Burnout and stress can be related, but there are differences in how they manifest. Burnout presents more as disengagement and produces a sense of helplessness and hopelessness, with loss of motivation and hope leading to detachment. People suffering from a burn-out often have a negative and cynical attitude and a poor self-image. Generally, someone who is stressed tends to be more hyper-reactive. When it comes to symptoms of stress which can lead to burnout, a common symptom we hear from people is they are always tired, combined with a difficulty falling asleep and or staying asleep. The following symptoms might also appear with stress: loss of appetite or overeating, which can include weight loss or weight gain, muscle pain, headache, dizziness, nausea, irritability, moodiness, difficulty relaxing, edginess, restlessness and all kinds of nervous tics. Physically there might also be stomach and intestinal symptoms, increased heart rate and respiration, hyperventilation, menstruation and potency disorders, higher blood pressure, increased cholesterol levels, skin conditions such as eczema and so much more. All of these reactions can lend itself to burn-out!
Self Care is the Foundation of Health Care.
We know balance is key to our wellness. When we are in balance with our mind and body we experience homeostasis. Homeostasis is defined as a self-regulating process by which a living organism can maintain internal stability while adjusting to changing external conditions. Homeostasis is not static and unvarying; it is a dynamic process that can change internal conditions as required to survive external challenges. When one is feeling balanced they can self regulate with greater ease. When one is stressed out we experience the uncomfortable symptoms as proof of our experience. This is what we teach in our Fundamentals of Self Care Program. This program is designed to help an individual better understand the effects of the choices and reactions they are experiencing. It is through observation of ourselves we become empowered to make informed choices that directly impact the quality of our lives. Our Biofeedback Specialists work with you to create positive solutions in all stages of your life regardless of the condition or complaint. Treat Yourself Wellness Centre knows that success happens through a collaborative cooperative process with accountability your will reach your self care health care goals. Studies show that to establish any habit takes about 21 days minimum and when we compounded that with consistency for another 21 days we saw better results for our clients. This equates to a commitment of 6 weeks up to 12 weeks to complete our FOSC program. We work with you in a collaborative & cooperative process to create safe, healthy, and achievable goals. It constantly provides energy for basic body functions, such as breathing, circulating blood, digesting food, growing and repairing cells, managing hormone levels, and regulating body temperature. It also includes your ability to excrete waste through the 4 channels of elimination. Respiration, perspiration, defecation and urination. And what about nutrition? Nutrition is a branch of science that studies the process by which living organisms take in and use food for the maintenance of life, growth, and the functioning of organs and tissues. A.K.A : Macro and Micro nutrients for your body to thrive!
